Who We Are
American Legion Post 67 is a veteran-led organization serving Tipton County and the surrounding communities. Our mission is to support veterans and their families, strengthen our local community, and continue a legacy of service beyond the uniform.
Through community engagement, veteran outreach, and local partnerships, Post 67 is committed to building a strong, active organization that provides real value, connection, and purpose for those who have served and those who support them.

Leadership
Nick Sawall
Commander
Nick Sawall is a United States Army veteran who served from 2008 to 2012 as an electronic repairer and mechanic assigned to the 3rd Brigade of the 1st Infantry Division at Fort Knox Kentucky and deployment to Afghanistan in 2011. During his service, he supported maintenance and operational readiness of critical equipment, ensuring mission capability at the unit level.
Following his military service, Nick transitioned into a career in industrial controls engineering while continuing his commitment to serving the veteran community.
As Commander of American Legion Post 67, he is focused on building an active, transparent, and community-driven organization that delivers real impact for veterans and their families in Tipton County.
Stan Cox
Vice Commander
Stan Cox is a United States Navy veteran with extensive experience in engineering and shipboard operations. He enlisted in 2009 and served in Naval Security Forces in Bahrain conducting Anti-Terrorism Force Protection operations.
His naval career included service aboard the USS Whidbey Island, USS Bataan, and USS Iwo Jima, where he held leadership roles as a Leading Petty Officer in engineering divisions. He also supported operations aboard the USS Wasp and USS Kearsarge.
Stan currently serves with Navy Recruiting Command as a National Leads Recruiter and continues his commitment to service as Vice Commander of Post 67.

Dr. Brian Styer
Chaplain / Service Officer
Dr. Brian J. Styer began his ministry and medical‑missions calling in 1979, serving as Associate Pastor with the Susquehanna Valley House of Prayer until 1985. He continued that calling in uniform by enlisting in the United States Navy as a Hospital Corpsman, later serving with the United States Marine Corps as a Fleet Marine Force (FMF) Corpsman. His deployments included Operation Just Cause, NATO’s Teamwork ’88, Arctic Warrior Cold Winter ’89, and combat service during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. He remained in service until being placed on the Permanent Disability Retired List (PDRL) in 2000.
After his naval career, Dr. Styer expanded his ministry through chaplaincy and community service. Since 1998, he has served as Post Chaplain for Tipton County American Legion Post 67 and as Post Service Officer, supporting veterans and their families with care, advocacy, and crisis ministry. His emergency‑services work includes earlier service with Cumberland Goodwill EMS and later with the Town of Mason Fire Department as Fire and Emergency Services Chaplain and Advanced EMT until the department’s furlough in January 2026.
Dr. Styer currently serves as Team Leader for the Tipton County Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) and as a Southern Baptist Disaster Relief–endorsed chaplain. His ministry and leadership are further reflected in his 2024 publication, Preparing Three Southern Baptist Churches in Mason, Tennessee, as Lighthouses of Hope in Crisis and Disaster, which explores the role of churches in community resilience during crisis.
He holds a Doctor of Ministry in Chaplaincy, a Master of Divinity in Community Chaplaincy, and extensive emergency‑services and NIMS/ICS training. Across every chapter of his life, Dr. Styer remains committed to serving veterans, supporting communities in crisis, and living out his lifelong calling with humility and dedication.
